GV II

Stables. Probably C18. Timber-frame on storey-high rubble base, tiled roof. One and a half storeys with attic dormers. 3 bays, 3 roughly evenly spaced ledged stable doors and remains of 2 pitch-holes above, 3 C20 gabled dormers, one to each bay. One storey tiled lean-to extension, probably early C19 to front of right bay. External frame is of regular panels 2 high from rubble base to wall-plate level. Regular tension braces to front at bay intervals; interrupted tie-beam trusses alternate with square panelled partition trusses similar to,those of gable end but without infill: both types of truss have small posts supporting ridge piece from very high collars near the apeces of the principal rafters. The stables form a close group with the adjoining Moat Farmhouse (qv) and are linked by the great mass of the latter's external chimney.
