Description
Ciderstone Cottage is a cottage dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries. It is constructed with a timber frame, brick panels, and rubble, with a tiled roof. A local rubble chimney stands detached with a brick shaft. The cottage is one storey and attic, originally with three bays. The left bay sits above a cellar. The windows are casements, with a 4-pane window to the left bay, a 4-pane window to the centre, and a 5-pane bay window to the right. Three dormers, with raking tops and 2, 3, and 3 panes respectively, light the attic. A 20th-century glazed gabled porch covers the central entrance. The right-hand gable is weatherboarded. The timber frame is generally four panels high on the left, revealing sawn-off tenons suggesting it was originally larger by at least one bay to the left, likely covering a cider mill now visible in the garden. The right-hand bay contains small wind braces. A pair of former cruck blades is visible between the centre and right-hand bays, cut short below their closure in the roof space. The cottage was formerly known as Nos 1, 2, and 3 Newbards.
