Description

Logaston Common Farmhouse is likely a 17th-century farmhouse, with later alterations. It is timber-framed and has plaster and brick infill, with some sections brick-cased or underpinned. The roof is covered with Welsh slate, and there are sandstone rubble and brick stacks. The farmhouse has a T-plan, consisting of a main east/west range and a cross-wing to the west. It is one storey high with an attic. The south elevation has a 1:2 window arrangement, featuring early 20th-century casement windows. The gable has a 3-light casement window, while the main range has 2-light casements, those to the first floor set under a gablet, and ground floor casements with cambered heads. The gable section is timber-framed, while the main range is brick. An entry point on the right-hand side of the gable front has a carved head above a recessed ledged door, and a sandstone stack is attached to the left of the gable front. The rear elevation reveals timber framing and includes a bread oven and a large sandstone stack. The interior features heavy chamfered ceiling beams, ledged 17th-century doors, and interrupted tie-beam trusses. The gable trusses are constructed with three posts from ties to collars, above which are raking struts.
