Description
Woonton Farmhouse is likely from the 17th and 18th centuries, with later alterations. It is constructed of brick and timber frame with brick infill and sandstone rubble, featuring tiled and sandstone slate roofs and brick stacks. The building’s roughly rectangular plan is aligned north-west to south-east, composed of a timber-framed L-shaped section to the north-west, with one-bay arms projecting north-west and south-west, and a brick section from the 18th century to the south-east. The north-east elevation displays a painted brick section to the left with two windows, featuring 3-light sliding sash glazing bar casements under cambered heads. A plat band runs along the elevation. There are two similar windows to the ground floor, and a single-light window to the right. A glazed door from the late 20th century is located to the left of centre. A timber-framed section is attached to the right, sitting on a high sandstone plinth. It contains two openings, and includes tallet stairs with a dog-kennel beneath, rising along the left-hand return. The south-west gable of the timber-framed section is constructed of sandstone rubble. The south-east elevation of the brick section features a pointed window to the upper floor and is unpainted. Inside the timber-framed section, the collars are supported by queen struts.
