Description
Crispin Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with some later alterations. It is constructed of sandstone rubble with a brick plinth, featuring a timber frame with plaster infill and a brick addition. The roof is made of stone slate, and there is an extruded sandstone rubble stack with a detached brick chimney. The building has a rectangular two-bay plan that is aligned west-south-west to east-north-east and consists of one storey and an attic.
On the north elevation, there are two windows with gabled dormers that contain 2-light late 20th century glazing bar casements. The ground floor has four similar casements; the left ones are part of a late 19th century or early 20th century brick lean-to. In the main part of the cottage, there are two more casements, one on either side of a framed central projection that has a cat-slide roof. The fourth casement is located within this projection. A small sandstone lean-to on the right side conceals the end stack. The entrance is located in the right return of the central projection and features a late 20th century oak door. The timber frame consists of three rectangular panels that extend from the cill to the wall-plate. The interior includes heavy longitudinal ceiling beams that have lamb's tongue run-out chamfer stops.
