Description
Bolton Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates back to the 15th century or possibly earlier, with an early 17th-century cross-wing. It has had early 20th-century and later additions and alterations. The structure is timber-framed with wattle-and-daub and brick infill on a sandstone rubble plinth, and the west front is rendered. The roof is made of part stone slate and part synthetic material. The main hall is aligned north/south with the cross-wing at the north end. There is a lateral stack for the hall and an axial stack for the cross-wing, with the entrance located on the west side.
The cross-wing to the left has two storeys, featuring one early 20th-century multi-paned window on the first floor and a similar early 20th-century bow window on the ground floor. The hall to the right is single storey with an attic, showcasing three small 2-light windows to the right of a gabled early 20th-century porch that has a panelled door. Inside, part of two cruck trusses from the hall can be seen, and a few sections of 17th-century panelling are preserved in the cross-wing.
