Description

Number 30 R Bright Butchers is a shop with living accommodation above, dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century and around the late 19th century. The building features close-studded timber framing, with plaster and brick panels. The roofs are covered with slate plain tiles and corrugated asbestos, and there is a red brick stack at the gable end.

The structure has a two-bay front range that was raised to three storeys in the 18th century, with a shop inserted in the late 19th century, and a two-bay rear wing. The large detached outbuilding at the back was likely used as a store.

The exterior is three storeys high with a two-bay east front. The ground floor has a large 20th-century shop front with a doorway to the right and a high fascia that obscures the sills of the first-floor windows. The first floor features two 8-pane sash windows, while the second floor has two 20th-century two-light casements. The rear is rendered and includes a one-storey and attic timber-framed wing with a large gabled half-dormer on the north side and a three-light sash window with glazing bars on the west gable end.

Across a small back yard stands a tall timber-framed outbuilding with red brick nogging and a brick-faced east side, which has round-arch doorways. Inside, the ground floor has plastered-over ceiling beams, while the first floor features stop-chamfered ceiling beams and two-panel doors. The rear wing has exposed framing and a framed partition. The interior of the outbuilding has not been inspected.
