Description
41 High Street is a shop and dwelling dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with later alterations. The building features a timber-frame and plaster construction, topped with a plain tile gable roof. It has a lateral stack on the right and a rubble stack with a brick chimney.
The structure is two storeys tall with an attic and has a single-window range. A 18th-century canted bay window displays 4/4, 6/6, and 4/4 sashes set in moulded cases, positioned under moulded eaves. This interrupts a shallow moulded jetty to the gable, which includes a 20th-century three-light mullion window in an earlier moulded case. The building is adorned with spurred curved braces and modillioned barge-boards featuring a pendant at the gable.
The early 20th-century shop front has a central half-glazed door and canted windows with chamfered glazing bars. It also includes plaster coving beneath a moulded hood supported by paired consoles. At the rear, there is 18th-century brickwork on a rubble plinth, featuring an 18th-century three-light mullion window with a central casement in a 17th-century moulded case, all under a brick segmental arch. A 20th-century plank door and fixed light are also located at the rear, beneath segmental arches. The interior has not been inspected.
