Description
BODENHAM CP off BOWLEY LANE (east side) SO 55 SW 5/38 Cider mill, granary and hop kiln adjoining Broadfield Court to the 11.6.59 east (formerly listed as Broadfield Court, attached granary and barn on south side of the courtyard) GV II Cider mill, granary and hop kiln, now room, offices and wine store. C17 with mid-C19 alterations, restored late C20. Part timber-framed with brick infill on tall sandstone rubble base, part sandstone rubble; plain tiled roof. Four-bay range aligned east/west adjoining Broadfield Court (qv) at west end. Two levels. Framing: two rows of square panels at upper level. Main south elevation: ground floor level has one square window, upper floor level has a large rectangular window and a loft door. There are two entrances with ledged and battened doors. External sandstone steps adjoin north elevation C19 addition to north-east. Interior: a complete cider mill and cider press survive in full working order. Hop kiln:(now wine store) adjoins to south- east. Sandstone rubble with pyramidal slate roof. Square plan. Two levels. There is a rectangular light on the ground floor of the south elevation and also in the upper level of the side elevations (blocked on west side). (RCHM Herefs II, p 15, item 3).
