Cider Mill And Hop Kiln About 20 Yards East South East Of Yoke Farmhouse

The cider mill and hop kiln, located about 20 yards east-south-east of Yoke Farmhouse, date from the early 19th century. The structure is made of dressed coursed sandstone rubble and timber-framed with brick infill and some weatherboarding, topped with a plain tiled roof. It consists of three framed bays that are roughly aligned east to west and has two levels. The framing features two rows of panels at the upper level, long straight braces across the upper corners, and a collar and tie-beam truss with raking struts exposed at the lower corners at the west end.

On the main north elevation, there are two ground floor windows with wooden bars, a 2-light window at the upper level, and a loft door. The central entrance has a moulded lintel and a ledged and battened door. Inside, the building features intermediate king-post roof trusses, and the cider mill and press are largely intact. The hop kiln is located at the east end, constructed of brick on a sandstone rubble base and has a circular plan, although the roof is missing. It includes a small window with a cambered head on both the north and south sides. The cider mill and hop kiln are situated close to Yoke Farmhouse and are included for their group value.
