Description

West View and the adjoining cider mill and hop kilns are a farmhouse and associated structures dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the early and late 19th century. The building features part timber framing with painted brick infill and replacement walling, as well as brick and stucco at the north-west end. It has a plain tiled roof with a brick ridge stack and is likely composed of three framed bays aligned north-west to south-east. The structure is two storeys high and has scalloped bargeboards at the north-west end. The framing consists of four panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with no visible trusses.

On the south-west front elevation, all the windows are 19th-century casements, including a 4-light and a 3-light window on the ground floor, and a 3-light and a 2-light window on the first floor. The central entrance features a large half-glazed gabled porch on a brick base, with a half-glazed door inside. The interior reportedly includes a large fireplace with a bread oven.

The cider mill is attached to the south-east end of the farmhouse, continuing the main roofline and having a rear wing. It is a single bay and has two levels. The south-west elevation has a ground floor opening with a cambered head and a window at the first floor level. However, the cider mill and press no longer survive. The hop kilns are connected to the cider mill on the north-east side. They are made of brick and have a steeply pitched hipped slate roof, although no cowls remain. The kilns are arranged in a rectangular plan and consist of two attached square structures. The south-west elevation features two doors with transom lights and a first-floor opening.
