Description

The cider house, hop store, and pair of hop kilns located next to Hill Farmhouse to the southwest date back to the 17th century, with some additions and alterations made in the late 19th century. The cider house is situated to the left of the farmhouse and features a timber frame with painted brick infill, partially refaced in brick, and has a tiled roof. It consists of two framed bays and is a single storey with an attic. The front elevation displays large square panels, with three exposed from the sill to the wall-plate in the right bay. There are two ground floor casements, one on the left with a cambered head. At the rear, there is a wide doorway to the left bay with steps leading up to a gabled loft door above. Inside, the structure has queen strut trusses and single, trenched purlins, although the machinery has been removed, leaving the mill position visible in the floor.

The hop store is attached to the house on the right and is built of brick with a tiled roof. It is a single unit, two storeys high, featuring a dentilled eaves cornice. The ground floor has a casement window with a cambered head, and there is one casement window on the first floor, along with a planked door that has a gabled canopy. Inside, there are doors leading to the kilns and the cider house.

The hop kilns are located at the rear, adjoining the hop store. They are constructed of brick with slate roofs and have square bases. One kiln features a door with a cambered head at the angle with the rear of the farmhouse, while the adjoining kiln has a first floor casement and an outshut.
