Cider Mill And Stable About 10 Yards South West Of Lowbrook

The cider mill and stable, located about 10 yards south-west of Lowbrook, date back to the 17th century and were altered in the mid-19th century. The structure features a combination of timber framing and weatherboarding on a rubble base, as well as sections made from sandstone rubble topped with a corrugated metal roof. It consists of two bays arranged east to west; the west bay is framed and houses the cider mill, while the east bay is constructed of rubble and serves as a stable. The building has two levels, with the main north elevation displaying two square openings, a doorway, and a large double doorway. There is a lean-to addition made of rubble on the south side, along with a timber-framed lean-to at the west end.

Inside, the west bay features three rows of panels extending from the sill to the wall plate, along with collar and tie-beam trusses that include struts. The similar truss at the east end has six struts beneath the collar, one of which has been replaced by a loft opening, and a V-strut positioned above the collar. The west bay also contains a cider mill and cider press.
