Description

Showers Farmhouse is a late 18th-century farmhouse with alterations from the mid-19th century. It is constructed of brick with a hipped slate roof and gable-end stacks. The east front has three storeys and features a moulded stone cornice to the parapet. Three windows are present: two tripartite sash windows flank a glazing bar sash, all with rubbed brick heads and painted stone sills. Smaller windows are found on the second floor, mirroring the arrangement below. The ground floor incorporates two semi-elliptical bay windows, each with tripartite sashes divided by slender Doric columns. The doorcase has engaged Doric columns and a dentilled broken pediment, sheltering a fanlight with ornamental glazing and a six-panel door. A low, two-storey service range from the 19th century is attached to the right, featuring tripartite sashes and a dentilled cornice. Internally, the ground floor front rooms retain plaster cornices. The staircase has stick balusters. The north room was enlarged, incorporating the former back staircase position; this earlier staircase was decorated with Gothick designs, which are now concealed behind a later false wall.
