Description

71 Bridge Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and dwelling. It dates from the early 19th century, with a rear section from the 18th century. The building is constructed of brick and features a shallow-pitched hipped roof covered with Welsh slate. There is a brick lateral stack on the right side.

The house has three storeys and a three-window range. The windows are modern metal casements set beneath gauged brick flat arches. The central section of the facade projects forward and includes a porch with a smaller casement window above. The porch has a central open pediment with moulded eaves and a boarded soffit. The main entrance features a six-fielded-panel door with an overlight that has glazing bars, all sheltered by a stucco flat hood supported by plain pilasters. There is a later porch with moulded eaves and a lead roof, supported by a metal trellis.

On either side of the entrance, there are 19th-century canted bay windows with central French windows and plain sash windows, topped with a modillioned cornice. To the left of the main building is a two-storey wing that has two modern metal casements, one of which is set beneath a gauged brick flat arch.

At the rear, the 18th-century section has a plain tile roof and features an 18th-century light and a casement window on the left side. The rear is rendered and includes a 3/3 sash window, a 19th-century two-light casement, and two modern metal casements. The interior has not been inspected.
