Description

HAYWOOD CP - SO 43 NW 3/79 Stables about 25 yards west-north-west of Merryhill Farmhouse GV II Stables. Probably C18 with later alterations. Sandstone rubble, brick and timber-frame with brick infill. Welsh slate roof. Elongated rectangular plan of 14 bays aligned east/west. Two levels. South elevation has six first floor openings, some with ledged doors. Segmental-headed opening in brick extension to right. Ground floor has seven segmentally-headed openings to stables and five ledged stable doors. Frame is exposed above first floor with two square panels and diagonal struts beneath wall-plate. Interior has collar trusses with ties supproted by curved struts from wall-frame. An unusually long stable range.
