Description
The building is a stable located about 25 yards west-north-west of Merryhill Farmhouse. It is probably from the 18th century and has undergone some later alterations. The structure is made of sandstone rubble, brick, and timber-frame with brick infill, topped with a Welsh slate roof. It has an elongated rectangular plan consisting of 14 bays aligned east to west and features two levels.
On the south elevation, there are six openings on the first floor, some of which have ledged doors. To the right, there is a segmental-headed opening in a brick extension. The ground floor includes seven segmentally-headed openings for stables and five ledged stable doors. The frame is exposed above the first floor, showcasing two square panels and diagonal struts beneath the wall-plate. Inside, the stable features collar trusses with ties supported by curved struts from the wall-frame. This is an unusually long stable range.
