Description
The gates, gate piers, railings, and garden walls at the east front of Haywood Lodge date from the early 18th century. The gates and railings are made of wrought iron, set on low brick walls topped with sandstone copings. The garden walls are constructed of brick. The gates, gate piers, and railings are aligned roughly north to south, with the garden walls extending westward towards Haywood Lodge. The inner piers feature an iron cylindrical openwork design that rises to a ball finial. The gates are decorated with scrolled designs and spear-headed dog-bars, along with an elaborately scrolled and foliated overthrow. The outer piers are made of brick and rise to moulded stone cornices, which have stumps for ball or urn finials. The garden walls are approximately six feet high and curve inward where they meet Haywood Lodge. Notably, the north wall has bee-holes on its south side.
