Description

1-8, Karen Court comprises eight houses formed from a 17th-century tallat and cow house, with alterations in the mid-19th century and remodelling in the late 20th century. The building is timber-frame construction with painted brick and rendered infill, partially rebuilt in painted brick, and has a tile roof. It has a U-shaped layout, with the main range aligned north-east to south-west, and cross-wings extending to the north-west. The south-east front is flush with gabled cross-wings at either end. The two storeys feature casement windows, mostly two-light and of 20th-century origin. The ground floor has a pattern of 2 + 4 + 1 windows, largely two-light casements, with an oriel window to the left. There are several blocked doorways in this wall, likely originally entrances to the cow houses. The house entrances are located at the rear. Framing consists of four square panels with some straight angle braces. Gable trusses feature two struts to the collars.
