Description

These are a group of three houses, now shops, a restaurant, and dwellings, dating to the middle and later 18th century. The buildings are constructed of painted brick with a Welsh slate roof and three 20th-century brick chimney stacks on the left-hand side.

The houses are three storeys high, with a cellar, and have a six-window front. The left-hand section has six-over-six sash windows in moulded surrounds, set beneath gauged brick flat arches, with smaller three-over-three sash windows above. The central section features 20th-century metal casements under grooved stucco lintels on the first and second floors. The right-hand section has six-over-six sash windows under grooved stucco lintels on the first and second floors. A brick modillion cornice runs along the eaves. A plank door is located on the left-hand side, alongside a late 19th-century shop front containing a 20th-century glazed door and overlight, and a canted window with moulded glazing shafts; a moulded fascia-board is supported by consoles. The shops at Nos. 5 and 7 have 20th-century shop fronts. The right-hand returned side, visible from the rear carriageway, displays exposed 17th-century timber framing. The interiors have not been inspected.
