Description

The Gatehouse is a house, now divided into dwellings, with an early 19th-century facade built on an 18th-century or earlier core. The front is stuccoed, with rustication to the ground floor, and has a Welsh slate roof. It is arranged in an “E” shape on the plan, and has three storeys and a cellar. The front has a five-window range: the windows are 6/6 sashes beneath moulded stone flat hoods on scrolled consoles; the centre sash is recessed within panels, within an advanced bay. A moulded band runs across the first floor, above which are 3/3 sashes with similar hoods. A moulded cornice sits above the parapet. The central entrance has a half-glazed panel door, sheltered by an entablature with enriched modillions, supported on fluted Corinthian columns and pilasters; this is flanked by 6/6 sashes and sits on an interrupted storey band. To the right is a porch-wing with a 20th-century half-glazed door and screens, set within a recess that reveals timber framing. A semicircular moulded stucco arch sits above the door itself, with a 3/3 sash in a moulded stucco architrave and a moulded roundel above. There is a band to the parapet. A late 19th-century sash window is present on the left returned side, as is a stuccoed storey band. The rear of the building displays 18th-century brickwork with storey bands and has hipped slate roofs to the wings. The interior was not inspected during the listing process.
