Description
The Moccas War Memorial is a First World War memorial located at the center of a crossroads, near The Smithy and Yew Tree Cottage, both of which are also Grade II listed.
The memorial features a plain stone Latin cross that stands on a tapering octagonal shaft, which is supported by a square plinth and a three-stepped octagonal base.
The main inscription is carved in incised lettering on the plinth. On the south face, it reads: "THIS CROSS WAS ERECTED BY THE PARISHIONERS TO THE GLORY OF GOD, AND IN MEMORY OF THOSE OF THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR, 1914–1919." The west face states: "GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS, THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS." The north face lists four names, while the east face proclaims: "THANKS BE TO GOD WHO GIVETH US THE VICTORY."
