Description

The Smithy is a pair of late 17th-century houses, with some late 20th-century restoration. The houses are timber-framed with painted brick infill between the timbers, set upon a painted rubble plinth, and have a roof covered in graduated stone tiles. The layout is L-shaped, with three bays extending to the north and a smaller range attached to the west. A central stack in the main range incorporates two diamond-shaped brick shafts. The east front is of one storey with an attic, the attic being lit by three gabled dormers. The ground floor features a three-light casement window to the left and a two-light casement to the centre, both protected by plank weatherings. A lean-to canopy of stone tiles covers the entrance between the windows, leading to a ledged and boarded door. A similar entrance and door are located to the right. The timber framing is arranged in two square panels in height. A former smithy is attached to the rear of the property.
