2/66 Upper Monkton Farmhouse

Farmhouse. C17 with C19 extension. Sandstone rubble plinth and porch columns, timber-frame with brick infill, asbestos slate roof, end stacks. T-plan with cross-wing aligned roughly north-west/south-east and C19 cow- house extension to south-east. Cellar and two storeys. North-east elevation has three windows, early and late C19 casements, one of two lights to left of central gabled porch front which has a 3-light wooden casement to each of the upper floors; the right part a 15-pane wrought- iron casement to each floor, central entry beneath projecting porch which is supported on two columns with moulded abaci; to the right of the entry is a 4-light mullioned window with ovolo mouldings. Frame has almost regular rectangular panels, four high from the deep plinth to wall-plate. Interior has many ground floor ceiling beams with notched run-out chamfer stops of differing designs; a fireplace with moulded stone jambs rising from decorative stops at their bases to a segmental oak lintol with matching mouldings; cross-wall apparently designed at two levels of plank and muntin screens alongside inserted staircase at the top of which is an entrance with an ogeed head.
