Description
Collingwood House is a house built in the mid-18th century located on St Ethelbert Street in Hereford. It features a cement facade over brick and a plain tile mansard roof, with a brick stack positioned at the right rear. The building stands three storeys tall with a cellar and has a three-window range, displaying 6/6 sash windows in broad beaded cases on the first and second floors. There are storeybands and a 20th-century box dormer with a two-light casement. The entrance is on the left and includes a three-fielded-panel door with an ornamental overlight, sheltered by a simple hood supported by grooved pilasters, alongside two 6/6 sash windows.
Inside, there is an 18th-century winder staircase featuring 19th-century stick balusters leading to the second floor and attic, with some original turned balusters still intact. A 20th-century restored stained glass window can be found here. The attic contains an 18th-century corner fireplace, while the second floor showcases exposed close studding in the spine wall. The first floor has a cornice in the rear room, and the ground floor features 18th-century panelling with a dado rail, a cornice, an 18th-century surround with a 19th-century firegrate at the corner fireplace, and exposed, altered close studding in the spine wall. The cellar has a plank door with strap hinges, and there is an icehouse located in the garden.
