Description

These are two early 19th-century houses located on St Martin’s Street, Hereford. They are built of brick with a hipped slate roof, and feature a 20th-century brick ridge stack at the rear. The houses are three storeys high, with a cellar, and have a four-window front. On the right-hand side is a pair of 12/12 French windows. To the left, there are two 2/2 sash windows set in altered openings. The upper floors contain 3/3 sash windows. The front features two 6/6 sash windows, flanked by 6-panel doors with fanlights, all set under gauged brick semicircular arches.

The interior of number 49 includes a staircase with stick balusters, a swan neck rail, and turned newels. The second floor has 4-panel doors, hob-grates, and skirting. The first floor retains a damaged cast-iron fireplace within architraves. The ground floor has 6-panel doors, a cast-iron fireplace with a wooden surround, a cornice, and two part-glazed panelled doors leading to the rear. The cellar is stone-lined and has a 4-panel door.
