Description

Norfolk House is an early 19th-century house located on the east side of St Martin's Street, Hereford. It is a three-storey building with a cellar, and originally had a two-window front. The brick facade has a slate roof and two brick axial stacks at the rear. The ground floor features 10/10 French windows, inserted in the 20th century to the left, set beneath segmental arches, with wrought-iron balcony guards. Above these are 4/4 sash windows, also 20th century replacements to the left, and a tile-coped gable with a modillioned cornice. A central six-panel door with a fanlight is recessed under a semicircular arch, framed by a moulded stucco architrave. Flanking the door are 8/8 sash windows, also set beneath segmental arches. A stone plinth and quoins are visible, and a weathered sandstone tablet reads "Norfolk House." The interior contains a dogleg staircase with stick balusters and a moulded rail. Cornices are present on the first floor. The cellar is lined with stone and brick.
