Description
This is a 17th-century barn located about 12 yards south-west of Pentre-Coed. It features a timber-framed structure with lath infill on a rubble base, partly covered with weatherboarding and topped with a corrugated metal roof. The barn is arranged in three framed bays running north to south, with a central wagon bay that has opposing cart entries, including double doors on the west side and a 20th-century metal door on the east side. The east elevation has two blocked raking top dormers, one in each outer bay, and a large opening in the north bay.
Inside, the wall framing consists of three rows of panels extending from the sill to the wall plate, with long straight braces in the lower corners. The roof is supported by collar and tie-beam trusses at each end, featuring three struts beneath the collar and a V-strut above it. There are also two intermediate tie-beam trusses with raking struts and two tiers of trenched purlins. The barn is included for its group value with Pentre-Coed.
