Description
This barn, located about 10 yards south-east of Penlan Farmhouse and adjoining an outbuilding, dates back to the 17th century and has been altered in the late 20th century. It is timber-framed and weatherboarded, sitting on a rubble base with some sections of rubble walling. The roof is stone-tiled, laid in diminishing courses, although part of it has been replaced with machine tiles. The structure consists of four framed bays oriented north-west to south-east, featuring a wagon bay with opposed cart entries and double doors in the second bay from the north-west end. A stable door is present in the north-east elevation. Inside, the wall-framing likely has three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, and an upper floor has been inserted throughout, with the roof trusses not visible. The barn is prominently positioned near Penlan Farmhouse and the adjoining outbuilding, contributing to its group value.
