Description
This is a barn located about 25 yards east of Pen-twyn Farmhouse, likely built in the 18th century and extended in the late 19th century. It has a rubble base, a timber frame, weatherboards, and a corrugated iron roof. The barn consists of five bays and features full height entrance doors in the fourth bay from the north. The frame remains intact despite the roof being re-clad, with three panels high from the cill to the wall-plate. Inside, there are raking struts from tie-beams to principals, and the partition between the first and second bay from the north is made of woven panels in oak laths. Tension braces are present on the door posts. The former south gable end wall has been extended by a two-bay brick extension with a slate roof and machine-cut king-posts, which is not included in this listing. The infill panels below the tie-beam consist of three horizontal oak planks set into grooves in the adjacent studs. The barn has group value with Pen-twyn Farmhouse.
