Description

BRILLEY CP - SO 24 NW 4/21 Barn and stables about 10 yards north-east of Tan House Farmhouse GV II Barn and stable. C17. Timber-framed and weatherboarded on rubble base with some rubble walling. Roof is of stone tiles laid in diminishing courses with some corrugated metal sheeting. Five framed bays aligned north-west/ south/east. Barn occupies four south-easternmost bays and has a wagon bay with opposed cart entries and double doors in the third bay from the south-east end. Interior: three rows of panels from sill to wall-plate; roof has collar and tie-beam trusses with three struts and V-struts above the collar at each end, a similar intermediate truss with two struts, two intermediate tie-beam trusses with raking struts and two tiers of trenched purlins. Stable occupies north-west bay and is separated from barn by a timber-framed partition. It has a large doorway in its south-west elevation. There is a single row of panels beneath eaves level and at the north-west gable end is a similar end truss to those found in the barn. The barn and stable is situated close to Tan House Farmhouse (qv). Included for group value. (RCHM, III, p 25, item 29).
