Description

Brilley Court Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely has medieval origins, rebuilt and altered around 1600, with significant additions from the late 18th century and late 20th century. The structure features a mix of timber framing with rendered infill on a rubble base and parts built from rubble, topped with stone tiled roofs laid in diminishing courses, some of which have gable-end parapets and rubble ridge stacks. The plan is asymmetrical, with the eastern part, including a cellar, likely dating back to medieval times. An adjoining block was constructed around 1600, followed by a substantial south-west wing added in the late 18th century, along with further extensions and refronting to the north and west in the late 20th century.

The farmhouse has two storeys, an attic with dormers, and a cellar. The timber framing is visible on the south and east sides, featuring three and four panels from the sill to the wall-plate, short straight upper corner braces, and a collar and tie-beam truss on the south side with two main struts and a rail between them, topped with a V-strut.

The north-west entrance elevation has been significantly altered and extended in the 20th century, displaying a 1:3:2 bay arrangement with modern windows. The central part features a mullioned-and-transomed window in the left bay, a ground floor 16-pane sash window, and a first floor 2-light casement with a cambered head in the right bay. The central bay includes a canted hipped-roofed two-storey porch wing with a 3-light first floor casement and a doorway with a moulded architrave and partly glazed double doors. The left wing has a ground floor 16-pane sash with a cambered head and a first floor 2-light casement, while the right wing features two first floor 16-pane sashes with cambered heads.

The central part retains its 18th-century facade at the rear, including 16-pane sash windows with cambered heads and a central entrance with a flat ashlar canopy on shaped brackets, a moulded architrave, and panelled double doors. Inside, the farmhouse is noted to have an early 17th-century staircase with turned balusters, moulded handrails, and square newels with turned terminals.
