Description
Sunny Bank is a farmhouse dating from the early 18th century, with alterations and an extension added in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed from coursed rubble, featuring some timber-framing, roughcast infill, and weatherboarding. It has a stone-tiled roof laid in diminishing courses, topped with a rubble ridge stack. The main structure is a three-bay range oriented east to west, with a central chimney that creates a lobby entrance, as well as an external chimney with a bread oven at the east end. There is a single-bay 19th-century addition at the west end that continues the main roof line. The farmhouse has two storeys and an attic, with a single-course band at the first-floor level of the original part at the front. The framing includes two rows of square panels at the first-floor level of the rear elevation.
On the south front elevation, the fenestration is irregular. The original part features a 3-light, a 2-light, and a single-light casement on the ground floor, along with three 2-light casements on the first floor and a large gable at the right end with a 2-light attic window. The main entrance is marked by a flat canopy and a ledged and battened door. The 19th-century bay addition has a 2-light casement with a cambered head on both floors.
