Description

Lower Bridge Court is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from around 1600, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and late 20th century. The building is timber-framed with rendered infill on a rubble base, partly rendered and weatherboarded, featuring some rubble walling and refacing. It has a stone tiled roof laid in diminishing courses with rubble ridge stacks. The structure is L-shaped, with the main range consisting of four bays aligned north to south. The third bay from the south end contains a chimney bay with a lobby entrance, while the southern end was previously used as a stable and granary. A west wing of three framed bays adjoins the north end of the main range and includes a large chimney at the junction; this wing was formerly a cowhouse. The building has two storeys, with the main range displaying two rows of square panels at the first floor level, while the cross-wing has one row of rectangular panels at the first floor level.

On the west front elevation, the main range features 20th-century casements, with three 2-light windows on both floors. The main entrance is marked by a 20th-century gabled timber porch and door. The west wing has a 2-light window on both floors at its gable end, and in the angle of the two wings, there is a combination of a 2-light and a single-light window on the ground floor, along with two single-light windows on the first floor. At the rear north end of the building, there is a lean-to rubble outshut with a catslide roof. Inside, the main ceiling beams are stop-chamfered, and there is a large fireplace and bread oven located in the west wing.
