Description
Parkstile Mill is a cornmill that has been converted into a house. It dates from the 18th century and has undergone alterations in the late 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of painted sandstone rubble and features a roof that is partly covered with Welsh slate and partly with stone slate. It has a rectangular plan oriented from north-east to south-west, with the house section featuring a gable-end stack at the north-east and the mill workings located at the south-west end, where the wheel is situated at the rear (north-west). There are 19th-century additions to both gable ends.
The mill is two storeys high with an attic. The south-east entrance front includes a central gabled dormer with a 2-light casement window, and two 20th-century windows on the first floor. On the ground floor, there is a 20th-century French casement window to the left of a 20th-century window, along with a ledged door in a lean-to to the right. The left end features a 19th-century addition with a loft opening and a garage entrance on the ground floor. Inside, the mill retains much of its original workings, which appear largely complete. Notably, there is an inscribed list of milling prices and costs on a hopper in the upper floor.
