Description

The Thomas and Elizabeth Smith memorial is a chest tomb located approximately 18 meters south of the south porch of the Church of St Deinst. It dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century and is constructed of ashlar stone. The tomb features a moulded plinth and a moulded, hipped capping. There are two oval inscription panels set within a rectangular surround, which includes decorative details in the spandrels and bead and reel ornamentation defining the ovals. The memorial is flanked by fluted corner balusters with gadrooned bases. It commemorates Thomas and Elizabeth Smith, who died in 1783, along with later early 19th century dedications.
