Description

The Smith memorial is a chest tomb located approximately 3 metres south of the nave of the Church of St John the Baptist. It dates from 1798 and is constructed from sandstone ashlar. The tomb features a moulded plinth, fluted corner piers, rectangular side panels adorned with flanking oval rosettes, and circular end panels with central rosettes. It has a moulded cornice that leads to a chamfered top. The inscription reads: "Here rest the Remains of/Mr ROBERT SMITH of/Acton Reynold who departed this life/April 27th MDCCXCVIII Aged 19".
