Description
The Morris memorial is a chest tomb located about 18 metres west of the west tower of the Church of St Faith in Dorstone. It dates from the late 18th century and is constructed of ashlar. The tomb features bold corner balusters that are decorated with crossed sprigs of wheat. There is a fluted border around the inscription panels, which have paterae in the corners, and a moulded cornice with a flat top. The inscription on the north face reads: "To the memory of Eleanor Wife of James Morris Gent late of this Parish who departed this Life the 18th Day of August 1796 Aged 40 years [line illegible]." The memorial also commemorates James Morris, who died in 1801.
