Description
The Morris memorial is a chest tomb located about 25 metres north-west of the west tower of the Church of St Mary. It commemorates Richard Morris, who died in 1796, and is signed by T Millnare of Hay on Wye. The tomb is made of ashlar and features bold corner balusters adorned with crossed sprigs of wheat. The inscription panel has a fluted border with paterae in the corners, while the ends display low relief Classical lamps and swags of husks. It has a moulded cornice and a bevelled top. The inscription reads: "To the memory of/ Richard Morris Gent/ late of the Priory in this Parish/ who died 4th Day of April 1796/ Aged 84 years". This memorial is a fine example of stone masonry and enhances the church's setting, contributing to the group value of other memorials in the churchyard.
