Description

The Morris monument, located in the churchyard of the Church of St Michael, is a mausoleum built around 1820-1830. It is constructed from sandstone and features a square body with Tuscan columns positioned at each corner, resting on a chamfered plinth. The monument has a plain entablature and a moulded cornice, topped with a pyramidal structure that ends in a square block finial. Each side of the mausoleum includes inscribed panels, which are defined by incised lines and feature fine lettering that commemorates members of the Morris and associated families from 1788, including Edward Morris, who died in 1823, and his wife Mary, who passed away in 1830.
