Description
This barn and cow house, located about 20 yards north-west of Lower Newton Farmhouse, dates from the early 18th century. It is constructed from thin coursed rubble and has a corrugated iron roof. The building is aligned north-west to south-east and consists of three bays, with a loft over the cow house at the eastern end. A notable feature is the east gable end, which has the typical three byre doors with timber lintels and stone slate hoods, along with a range of slit vents in the center. Inside, there is a central threshing floor, raking struts from ties to principals, and three rows of purlins. The interior is partially obscured by later additions from the 20th century, which are not included in the listing.
