Description

6 and 7 King Street are mid-19th century houses that have been converted into offices. The buildings are constructed of brick and feature a Welsh slate mansard roof. They rise three stories and have a four-window range, showcasing margin-glazed sash windows with stucco architraves, corbels to the sills, and moulded flat hoods with pediments. Above these, there are similar sash windows with plain architraves. A stucco band with consoles supports a stone-coped parapet. The entrances are located on the left and right sides, each featuring a three-panel door with plain fanlights set in moulded frames, which are framed by rusticated stucco architraves with keyblocks. There are also two margin-glazed sash windows with plain architraves, keyblocks, and consoles to the sills, topped with a storey band. The rear of the building has four 3/6 sashes under segmental arches on the second floor, along with two roof dormers that contain two-light casements and 2/2 sash windows. Inside, there are two 19th-century dogleg staircases with stick balusters leading to the attics. The ground floor features coved ceilings and a 19th-century fireplace, while the cellar is mainly brick-lined and has a plank door. The buildings are included for their group value.
