Description
This is a barn with attached stables and a cart-shed, located immediately northeast of Prospect Farmhouse. It dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century and is constructed of coursed stone rubble with a clay plain tile roof featuring gabled ends. The barn consists of three bays, with a threshing floor in the central bay, and a stable and cart-shed added in the later 19th century on the southwest side.
Both the northeast and southwest fronts have full-height cart entrances with wooden frames that have cambered heads, along with the remains of plank doors. There are vertical ventilation slits on either side and in the gable ends, and the southeast end features a small loft door in the gable. The lower stable wing is located on the left side of the southwest front, which has a doorway at the front and a loft doorway above it. The cart-shed is at the end of the stable and has a blocked, formerly open gable end.
Inside, the barn has three-bay tie-beam and collar roof trusses with angle-struts. The central threshing floor is flanked by low brick walls with a sole-plate on top and long raking struts reaching up to the tie-beams, dividing the bays. The tenoned purlins, ridgepiece, and common rafters are all intact.
