Description
Fir Tree Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, which was extensively refaced in the 18th century. The building has a timber-framed core that has been refaced with sandstone rubble, with some square panels revealed at the rear that retain wattle-and-daub infill. It features a sandstone plinth and a corrugated metal roof. Originally a timber-framed house of two bays aligned north to south, it has an added sandstone extension to the south and a further three framed bays at the north end that extend to the west, forming an L-shaped plan. There is a lateral stack on the west side, and the entrance is located in the angle of the L. The cottage is single storey with an attic, featuring one dormer with a two-light casement window to the right of the stack, a four-pane casement window, and a 20th-century window flanking the stack on the ground floor, to the right of a half-glazed door. The wing extending to the west has part weatherboard cladding and three doorways. Inside, the framing is visible, including collar and tie-beam trusses with inclined struts in the wing, and there are irregular three and four square panels from the sill to the wall-plate.
