Description
The Old Shop is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house, originally built in the 17th century and altered in the 18th or early 19th century. It features a timber-framed structure with wattle-and-daub infill, although much of it has been refaced with sandstone rubble and topped with a tiled roof. The building consists of three framed bays arranged in a north-south direction, with a lean-to on the east front, suggesting a probable through-passage plan and an axial stack located north of the center. The east front is mostly hidden by later lean-tos that flank the entrance. The building has a single storey and an attic, with three gabled dormers that contain 2-light casement windows. There is a 20th-century half-glazed door leading to an inner ledged door. The framing at the rear is largely intact, showing three square panels from the sill to the wall-plate, bracing from the main post to the wall-plate, and V-struts in the gables.
