Description
This barn, located about 90 yards north-north-east of Upper Monkton Farmhouse, is possibly from the early 18th century. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and features a corrugated iron roof. The barn has five bays that are aligned roughly north-west to south-east, with opposed cart entries in the central bay. The south-west elevation is partly obscured by a 20th-century lean-to extension. The north-west gable includes three ventilator slits that are symmetrically placed. Inside, the barn has unique trusses where the ties are supported near their ends by pegged curved braces that rise from pegged oak corbels.
