Description

The William Mathews memorial is a chest tomb located approximately 2 meters south of the nave of the Church of St Deinst. It dates from the early 19th century and is constructed of ashlar stone. The tomb features a moulded plinth and a moulded, hipped capping. It has a rectangular panel with a pair of oval inscription panels and decorative foliated motifs in the spandrels. Flanking the panel are fluted balusters with gadrooned bases. This memorial commemorates William Mathews of Langstone, who died in 1823.
