Description
The Cathedral School, excluding the modern building to the south, is a house that has been converted into a school. It dates from the late 18th century, with an earlier core. The building is constructed of brick and features a hipped Welsh slate roof. It has two storeys and a three-window range, although the central window is now blocked. The windows are 8/8 sashes with moulded sills, set beneath gauged brick flat arches, and the eaves are moulded wood. The ground floor has similar window features.
To the right, there is a 19th-century range that includes seven metal cross-windows, two of which are blocked, all set under segmental arches. This section has a storey band, brick eaves, and five narrow gable dormers with horizontal casements, along with two brick stacks and a wooden bellcote. A late 19th-century gable wing to the left features a half-glazed panelled door under a moulded open pediment hood.
Inside, there is a 19th-century open-well staircase with stick balusters. On the first floor, there are four-panel doors and probable timber-framing. The ground floor showcases exposed 17th and 18th-century timber-frame with wattle infill, a 18th-century wall cupboard, a 19th-century fire surround, and a six-panel door.
