Description
Shrewsbury Sixth Form College, known as The Priory, is a house dating from around 1800 that has been converted into a school, with various later modifications. The building is constructed of brick and features a low-pitched hipped roof covered with Welsh slate. It has two storeys and a six-window range.
The north elevation displays a three-window range on the right, which includes tripartite sash windows set in high segmental arches, flanking a twelve-pane sash window with a flat-arched gauged brick head. Above, there are twelve-pane sash windows. To the left, there is a large canted full-height bay with twelve-pane sash windows featuring flat-arched gauged brick heads and a string course below the upper windows. This section may represent the original part of the building. Adjacent to this is a slightly projecting squared bay with tripartite sash windows on each floor and a stone string course above the lower window, likely a later addition. The left-hand bay has a tripartite sash window with a plain wood lintel on the ground floor and a twelve-pane sash window above. To the right, there is a lower two-storeyed single-window range block, which may have served as the original service end.
