Description

The Armoury is a former barracks that was originally built in 1806 by James Wyatt for the Shrewsbury Armoury. It was later rebuilt as a bakery in 1922 and renovated in 1995 to become a public house. The building is constructed of brick on a stone plinth and features a Welsh slate roof.

It stands two storeys tall and has ten bays, which are defined by full-height pilasters, with the outer bays being slightly advanced. The lower windows have round-arched fine gauged brick heads, while the upper windows have flat-arched brick heads. The lower windows in the outer bays feature flat-arched heads that are stepped to resemble voussoirs. The stone sills of the upper windows are set from a string course that is interrupted by the pilasters. The building has overhanging eaves, and the plain cornice extends across the gables, forming a pediment.

To the right, there is a narrow two-window infill range that connects to a two-storey house or office block. This section has two twelve-pane sash windows on each floor, although the lower windows are now blocked and feature flat-arched gauged brick heads. It also has a stone plinth and a continuous stone sill band for the first-floor windows, along with plain overhanging eaves on a hipped roof that has an end wall stack.
