Description
Severn Hill is a house that has been converted into a school house. It was built around 1800 and extended around 1925. The building is made of brick and has a Welsh slate roof. It stands three stories tall and features a three-window range, highlighted by full-height brick pilasters. The central entrance is framed by a Tuscan portico, with a panelled door and a delicately traceried fanlight above. Each floor has tall 12-pane sash windows, while the attic storey has 6-pane windows. The roof has a coved cornice and overhangs, with axial stacks on the rear wall.
To the left, there is an original low two-storey pavilion wing, and an additional two-window range wing was added around 1925. This newer wing includes an inner doorway with paired traceried doors and a fanlight set within a round-arched architrave. It also has 12-pane sash windows on each floor and a parapet with balustrading above. The long return of the building forms the main range of the boarding house.
